Cristina Urdaneta Thomas '92 PhD is an accomplished chemical engineering leader with over 35 years of experience in R&D. Holding a PhD in chemical engineering from UMass Amherst, she has excelled in high-performance computing, polymer science, product development, and organizational leadership. At 3M, she held senior leadership roles in strategy, commercialization, knowledge management, R&D digital transformation and materials modeling. She recently completed her MBA at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. A recipient of multiple prestigious awards (the 2023 ACS Stanley C. Israel Award, 2019 AIChE Industry Leadership Award, and the 2019 Management AwarD), she is also an ACS, AIChE, and PMSE fellow, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).Alyssa Panitch '90, '97 PhD received Bachelor’s degrees from Smith College in Biochemistry and from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Chemical Engineering. She completed her PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Since July 2022, she has served as the Wallace H. Coulter Department Chair in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University. Dr. Panitch specializes in biopolymer design and controlled release. She has co-founded four companies based on technologies developed in her laboratory.Several of the compounds have entered human clinical trials.She is a member and Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineers and the National Academy of Inventors.
