She has been a professor of fiction and screenwriting for over twenty years—at San Francisco State University, Emerson College, Harvard University, and now at Boston University.Her fiction has been published in Electric Literature, Another Chicago Magazine, AGNI, Lilith, Salamander, Natural Bridge, and Women’s Words; her nonfiction in What We Keep, Finding a Spiritual Home and her academic work in several books and journals. Her sevenths screenplay, We’re All Here is in pre-production. She collaborated on the libretto for Margaret Garner with Toni Morrison, wrote a musical adaptation of the young adult novel The Great Good Thing, and the farcical musical The King’s Ear based on the biblical story of Esther.
