New Sunday (had b-shabo hadto/Sunday after Easter)

The first Sunday after Easter & New Sunday (had'bshabo qadmoyo d'Qymtho, had'bshabo hadto) known in Malayalam as Puthu Njyaar according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Malankara. In the early days of the Holy Church, all the neophytes who were baptized on Easter & whom were learning about the faith & traditions of the Church during the Bright Week (S'habtho d'Hevorae) would receive their first true Holy Communion. With said Holy Qurbono, it would be a new chapter in the lives of these Christians. The Gospel of St. John recalls Christ's revelation to His Apostles following His Resurrection. Today the Church also commemorates the proclamation of faith by St. Thomas, "My Lord & my God" John 20:28. He is traditionally referred to as 'Doubting Thomas' because of the exchange between him & his fellow Apostles as written in the Gospel of St. John 20:24-25. However, this doubt isn't a lapse in his character as a disciple or his genuine belief in God. It should be seen in the light of one whose faith is further strengthened by the manifested glory of God's miraculous power. Doubt is the first step to belief. It is his confession of faith in front of the newly appeared Christ, that will be etched in Christendom for eternity. Christ knew the heart of Thomas & tells him to feel His wounds. There is not an unbelieving word in our tongues, nor thought in our minds, but it is known to the Lord Jesus; & he was pleased to accommodate himself even to Thomas, rather than leave him in his unbelief. Thomas proclaims 'My Lord and my God' (John 20:28).This proclamation is the sum total of the salvific act of Jesus Christ on earth. This confession of faith is repeated in every Holy Qurbono when the second coming of Christ is commemorated.
