qotné da-gleeylo The Sunday of the Feast of Cana (qotné da-gleeylo) according to the liturgical calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church. This Sunday marks the first of the 7 Sundays of the Great Lent (sawme rabo/valiya nombu) leading to Passion Week (hasho). This day is also known as Pethurtho which means 'to return' in Syriac. The Church extolls us to return to God through fasting & prayers. St. John's Gospel recounts the very first miracle of our Lord's public ministry. At a wedding in the region of Cana, Christ transforms water into wine when it is found short in supply. Let also be transformed by the miraculous grace of our Lord & take this time to prepare for His glorious Resurrection.
